How We Built it: Niki Wright, Founder of Lights & Lamps

We talk to Niki Wight, Founder of Lights & Lamps about how they built their brand

  1. Give us the elevator pitch. Tell us about your brand

We are experts in designing and manufacturing lights and lamps. It is a brand run by two individuals who have been designing interior lighting solutions for the UK high street for nearly 20 years. This is the first time we have pulled together everything we have learned over the last two decades and created a collection of lights and lamps that we know our audience is looking for. It is a brand born from a creative desire to offer more for less. Creative design with considered detailing all cleverly engineered and produced to be accessible to all.

  1. What inspired you to set up your company?

We wanted to create a solution to the dwindling offer of genuinely creative and exciting lighting design. We had the ideas, ability and resource and so knowing there was an audience crying out for something different really spurred us on to give them what they wanted.

  1. What has been your biggest challenge so far?

Launching a company during a pandemic! It has often been a logistical nightmare, as it has for most businesses, but it was also at a time when people were focused on their homes and interiors and so in many ways it was perfect timing.

  1. What would you say has been your biggest marketing success?

Our collaborations. Having the ability to listen to other individual’s or brand’s ideas and wants and answering them quickly and efficiently through our dynamic design and development process has really demonstrated our ability and expertise in the field.

  1. What has been the biggest mistake you made?

I can honestly say we haven’t made any. Some things have gone better than others but as anyone starting a new brand can tell you, these are learnings that only make you and your business better and stronger. If I’m pushed – its maybe we should have started it sooner!

  1. Tell us about your plans for the future

Consistent, sensible and sustainable growth. We are trading in unpredictable times but we believe in our model. We will remain focused on designing new collections, expanding our offer and continuing to work alongside some great individuals and brands to help let as many people as possible know we are here!
